Some people can talk about almost everything. They generally are literates and skilled at conversation. However, it is not important being a literate. Knowing ‘what to read, and how to express it’ when the time comes is more important.
- First, read what interests you. Try magazines, or pick up a book of short stories. Read in small bits to understand first. Most importantly, you must get involved in reading something, at least for a while everyday. It is better to read children’s books, as they are more interesting and easy to understand.
- After a month or two, regularly try to read something more challenging. Read articles in newspapers and magazines. If you are interested in sports, read sports column.
- Find a book group. Once you start reading, you will want to talk about the book you read. Form a book club; it can be your sister, a brother, a couple of friends or even colleagues at work. Meet for a coffee or arrange a small get together and discuss about the points you read in the book. A lot of fun will evolve and you can gain lot knowledge by sharing your views with others. In addition to this, a book club makes you read more books and helps you brush up tour skills regularly.
- Set personal goals for reading. Set your targets as to complete a book within a timeframe.
- Enjoy reading. Enjoy whatever you read; you have to like it. You will enjoy more when you read what you are interested in.
- Feel free to quote from the books you have read.
- Once you start reading, it is hard to stop, and it is hard to part with books you love.
